The Lounge Chair by Charles and Ray Eames and the accompanying ottoman are today considered as one of the world's most famous pieces of furniture.
 
After several years of development for Herman Miller, the chair and ottoman was introduced in 1956. These were the first design for the high-price segment by the Eames.
 
The chair and the ottoman both got basically the same design. On a rotatable steel foot, there is a plywood shell, leather cushion as the seat base and an armrest. The cushions can be removed.

Charles Eames (1907 - 1978) was a designer and architect of U.S. origin.

Together with his wife Ray Eames, he significantly influenced the American post-war design and is particularly known for his furniture designs. These include the office and conference chairs (EA 117, 119, 219, 108, 208) coming from the Aluminium Group, stool (EA 125, EA 225) and lounge chairs (EA 124, EA 224).
