history:

In 1938/39 Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen were already experimenting in order to form three-dimensional plywood veneers. One of the basic ideas behind this was to adapt the anatomy of the human form to furniture. It should especially offer a high comfort without expensive upholstery arise.

Eames and Saarinen took first place in the competition Organic Design with the "Organic Chair" in Home Furnishings of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in 1940.

Not technically feasible due to the production opted Eames and Saarinen to separate the seat and back of each other. This development arose from the 1945 and 1946 Plywood Chairs and the Plywood Group.
