The Shaker, are born of the Free Quaker Christian church in the United States. The ritual Shaker dance, considered as a form of worship of God, serves as namesake of the faith community.
Ann Lee, daughter of a blacksmith from Manchester founded the Shakers in the 18th Century. A strong work ethic honors the faith community in which a gender largely separate community life takes place. In the middle of the 19th Century they had the most widely experienced, while today they are almost extinct. Today they have a great reputation for their "Shaker furniture".
